Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. Ashley Wilburn's legal practice is focused on family law. She has a passion for it. She concentrates a large portion of her practice on divorce cases, alimony disputes, marital property distribution, child custody battles, child support arrangements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement issues as well as step-parent and private party adoptions as well as child welfare concerns. Ashley has been a mediator appointed by the court since the year. She assists parties to resolve their disputes without the need for litigation or court involvement. In addition to mediations that are court-appointed, Ashley also mediates in private cases for those who wish to avoid the litigation and court process.
After finishing her undergraduate education at Loyola University of Maryland, where she received two bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was placed among the top 10 students in her class. Ashley was an editor at the Western New England Law Review during her time in law school. This was a sign of her dedication to scholarship and research in the field of law.
After completing her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship program, working with prominent jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She had the honor of being a law assistant for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. Then, in 2014, she returned to her hometown of Hagerstown to be a clerk for Honorable M. Kenneth Long at the Washington County Circuit Court, increasing her knowledge of the local legal landscape. Ashley joined Poole & Kane P.A. in 2015 as an associate attorney. As an associate attorney. Her main responsibilities at the firm was to represent the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters related to child welfare. Ashley's dedication to her work played a significant role in helping children who were victims of abuse or negligence at the of their caregivers or parents. Her dedication to social justice extended beyond her legal practice and she was active as a board member for the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, working diligently to increase awareness of human trafficking within the tri-state area.
In 2017, she was a founding partner at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and developed her practice in family law - custody, divorce and child maintenance, as well as guardianships and financial and estate planning - wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies – and mediation.
Ashley founded Wilburn Law Office, LLC 2023 with the intention of providing a personalized approach for every client's need.
